What is Beating Heart Disease?
Beating Heart Disease (BHD) is a program that has been affiliated with Beta Chi Theta since early 2004. It originated on the University of Texas campus when the brothers of Eta Chapter implemented it as their annual spring philanthropy cause. In 2009, it was voted by the brothers of this fraternity to be our national philanthropy. Since then, we have made great strides as an organization in establishing BHD programs across the country at all of our host institutions.
The Four Objectives of BHD
1) To spread awareness regarding the effects of cardiac disease states
2) To raise funds for cardiac research and education programs
3) To teach people how to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle in local communities and on university campuses
4) To provide opportunities for members of the community to engage in heart-healthy activities
Partnership with American Heart Association
Our partnership with AHA involves raising money during our BHD weeks in our spring semesters. This money is then donated to our Heart Walk team pages; these walks take place in the following fall semester. Check out the Heart Walks page for more information on how you can get involved with our teams in a Heart Walk near you!
